Supportive Texas Family Law Attorney Helps Clients Prepare for the Future

Dedicated Conroe counsel assists clients with family court system

Whether you’re trying to build your family through adoption or help your children thrive by obtaining a support modification, a compassionate and responsive attorney can ease your stress while bolstering your case. At Rosenquist Law Firm, PLLC in Conroe, Texas, I use my decades of experience to capably guide clients as we work toward the solutions they desire.

Passionate advocacy when arranging an adoption

Building your family is complex and personal, but don’t let the legal concerns involved with adoption be a barrier between you and a son or daughter. All prospective parents in Texas must undergo a home study, and I can guide you through this and all required steps in the adoption process, including coordinating with adoption agencies or birth parents, completing  paperwork, and complying with international laws when applicable. I take pride in handling the legal issues for my clients, so they can focus on the family they’re making.

Knowledgeable explanation of rights during divorce

I can advise you on the proper path for pursuing your divorce that is in line with your circumstances. In Texas, divorce must be based on one of the following grounds:

  • Insupportability (called irreconcilable differences in some states)
  • Living apart for three or more years
  • Confinement in a psychiatric facility for three or more years for a condition that is unlikely to be resolved
  • Cruelty
  • Abandonment for at least one year
  • Felony conviction
  • Adultery

Note that the last four grounds may affect the division of marital property. I can help you determine if spousal maintenance is available to you or if you are required to pay based on certain conditions, such as that the marriage must have lasted more than 10 years and one spouse must lack the resources and earning potential to meet basic needs.

Reliable representation for clients seeking conservatorship for children

In Texas, child custody and the authority to make decisions regarding a child’s health and future is called conservatorship. Courts will only grant conservatorship if you can show that it is in the best interests of your child; otherwise, they favor joint conservatorship. As your attorney, I can help you present your case convincingly.

Representation is also critical when it comes to child support, which is usually paid by the noncustodial parent and calculated based on the parents’ respective incomes, though the courts can vary from the formula and allow modifications for good cause, usually related to a parent’s change in circumstances. The recipient spouse will receive a support award to cover clothing, groceries, childcare, insurance, and medical expenses. If your child support award needs to be enforced, I can pursue an income withholding order or help to get it deducted from the paying parent’s paycheck.
